Following his quarterfinal loss to
Ben Shelton at the 2023
US Open,
Frances Tiafoe will see his run in the Top 10 come to a disappointing end.
The American lost to his compatriot in four sets on a packed Arthur Ashe stadium, with fans cheering on both players as they battled for a place in the semifinals. Shelton prevailed in a thrilling encounter, with Tiafoe falling shy of reaching the final four.
Tiafoe's loss sees him drop out of the Top 10
The tenth seed was a dark horse to capture the title in Flushing Meadows, after making an incredible run to the semifinals last year. Although he fell to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz, his recent form and belief had fans believing the 25-year old could make a repeat run this year.
With Tiafoe failing to replicate his performance from last year, the Maryland native will see his stay in the Top 10 come to an end. Tiafoe was unable to defend his semifinal ranking points, and will therefore drop one spot to World No.1 as he loses 360 ranking points.
