Musetti defiant amid crushing final loss
Lorenzo Musetti remained defiant after a pretty disheartening loss. He won more points, committed less unforced errors and had match points but the demons got the better of him in regards to five previous final losses as he was defeated by Alejandro Tabilo.
"You are not DEFEATED when you lose. You are defeated when you QUIT," he penned on his Instagram.
Musetti was crying on court afterwards in a real emotional display and he said he sees it as just a matter of time and his Instagram echoed that sentiment.
"Well, it’s a tough night for me, I guess. It probably was not my day. Of course, I want to congratulate Alejandro," said Musetti on court post final.
It was a really intense match. We fought hard until the last point. In this sport, there’s only one winner, and today it was him. Sometimes you win, other times you learn. Hopefully, next week will be better.
Of course, I want to thank my team and my family, who are watching at home. I feel all their support, and I think we’re doing a good job. I believe it’s just a matter of time before I can claim back a title. It’s been three years now that I’ve reached some finals but haven’t lifted the trophy. Every time, though, we’re getting a step closer. Hopefully, next time will be the lucky one.
And lastly, I want to thank the organisation and all the people investing money and time to make this beautiful tournament happen. I feel really appreciated."
