Dan Evans has lived up to his British Number One tag by beginning his Battle of the Brits campaign with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jay Clarke in the second singles match of the opening day.
Clarke settled nicely into proceedings going 2-1 up with Evans looking a bit rusty but those doubts were dispelled soon after.
A timely break from Evans saw him take a 3-2 advantage and despite Clarke claiming a hold of serve from there, it was smooth sailing for the Birmingham ace. Clarke held in there but Evans began to start finding his range claiming the set 6-3.
From there, Clarke was up against it in the next set even from the start. He went down 3-1 with a break and from there, he started to begin making unforced errors which allowed Evans to claim a second break at 5-1 and he streaked to victory from there to assert his authority early before Andy Murray heads onto the court.
