Dan Evans defeated former world number 1, Andy Murray in the first semifinal match at the Battle of the Brits.
Current British number 1,
Dan Evans wanted to prove his qualities against former world number 1, Andy Murray. The
Battle of the Brits showed a lot of competition already in the group stage and semifinals just prove the high quality of this tournament.
The Scot had a great start to the match against Evans. He converted 2 of the 4 breakpoint opportunities that he got in the first set and won it comfortably 6-1. However, Evans kept fighting and showed a great level of tennis in the second set.
World no. 28 won 12 out of the first 15 rallies in the second set and got an early 3-0 lead. He then didn't convert any of the 7 breakpoints he got, however, Murray didn't get any breakpoint opportunity in the second set and so Evans won it 6-3.
Similarly to the group stage, also semifinal matches are decided by a super tie-break in the third set. More experienced Scotsman had a better start to the super tie-break. He got the first mini-break and soon got a 4-1 lead. However, Evans fought back again, got two mini-breaks, and enjoyed a 7-5 lead. Murray then broke back, however, he immediately lost his service again and lost the match 6-1, 3-6, 8-10.
