Luca Nardi produced a seismic upset on Monday at
Indian Wells as he took down Novak Djokovic, the World No.1 after being a Lucky Loser into the draw in California. It was a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win for the 20-year-old who had beaten Zhizhen Zhang priorly to set up this tie and next up has Tommy Paul.
But he didn't realise he had to play more tennis in his post match press conference as he was left befuddled by questioning asking about facing the American next for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
"Tommy Paul for what? I play against him oh really. I didn't know that, I mean I didn't check the draw okay so thanks for letting me know," said Nardi obviously still shocked about what had happened.
This was mirrored on court with Nardi lost for words on how he did it. “I don’t know man. Really, I don’t know. I think this is a miracle. I’m a 20 year old guy ranked 100 in the world beating Novak. Crazy.”
He also was asked about having posters of Djokovic on his bedroom wall and he said he will keep it hanging after sealing this landmark win. “Yeah, I do, yes. Every night I go to bed I see Novak. I think starting from now, I will keep going, now, for sure (smiling). No, I'm kidding, but yes, I have it and I think that I will keep it.”
