Dominic Thiem was in a very dark place a couple of months ago unsure whether he would ever return to tennis.
For a long time, it seemed like he would not be able to do it but recently he finally started playing better tennis and winning matches. By now, he's won 3 matches on the ATP tour which only going to help him build his confidence faster.
For Thiem, the injury allowed him to take a step back and realize how fortunate he is to truly be back to playing tennis. It's something that reminds him of the start of his career:
“I feel now a bit like I did at the beginning of my career, where every win was something very special. I reached the quarter-finals in Bastad at an ATP 250 and it feels huge to me."
Thiem has been accustomed to going deep in events recently but the recent struggles made him realise how every win is truly special. It's something he did not think about much in the past and he's glad that he is able to see the bigger picture now:
“When you are used to going deep, a match win is not as special anymore. But that is not the way it should be. The level is so high, all the players are playing so well, so every match win should be special and that is how I am feeling again now.”
