World Number Three,
Carlos Alcaraz, is playing the last but one ATP 1000 tournament of the season, the
China Open. After his successful debut against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the Spaniard had time to comment on the atmosphere in one of the most important tournaments of the Asian tour.
After being the "savior" of Team Europe in the Laver Cup, winning 4 key matches for the consecration of Bjorn Borg's team in the competition, Alcaraz arrived in China looking to improve what he did last year, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.
The tournament has undergone significant improvements to its facilities, especially as the WTA Tour edition now spans two weeks. The Beijing National Tennis Center has 34 courts, including four indoor and three clay courts, plus a renovated gymnasium and rest areas. All this has been welcomed with open arms by both Alcaraz and other players, such as Aryna Sabalenka, who also praised the new facilities.
"This tournament, for me is really good. We have a lot of facilities. The gym is pretty good, the locker rooms, the areas, the players' lounge. Everything is quite good for the players," stated the two-time Wimbledon champion.
"The people here are very friendly. They are always trying to help us, to make us feel as comfortable as possible," Alcaraz added.
The Spaniard will be looking to snatch the world No. 1 ranking from Sinner before the end of the season, but in order to do so it is vital for him to score points in every tournament he plays. Although the Italian has taken a good lead, the reigning Roland Garros champion has everything he needs to climb to the top of the rankings.
