After
Novak Djokovic won his 19th Grand Slam talks about the 'GOAT' race flared up once again with many commenting on the matter including tennis legend Rod Laver.
Rod Laver is a tennis legend and a respected name in the tennis circled even decades after he stopped playing and he shared his thoughts on the 'GOAT' race between Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. He said:
"A lot of people, including myself, think that
Roger Federer is the best ever at the moment. But Novak’s compiling a big record, so you’ve got to look at his career. You have to put him in that group with the greatest players. He has to be up there."
Laver is not the only player that commented on the race recently. ATP asked current tennis pro's who the best ever is and all three names came up. Andy Murray shared his thoughts on the debate as well as did Patrick McEnroe.
McEnroe would not name who the best is but he did say that Djokovic is the most complete player ever. Laver also praised Novak for his mental fortitude saying it's his biggest weapon. He said:
"He's a different player. Mentally, he’s strong. A game or two down in the fifth doesn’t mean anything to him. He keeps battling on."
