Former world number one Ilie Nastase is not ready to count out Roger Federer who according to him will always have a chance.
Roger Federer underwent two knee surgeries in 2020 and that's not something an athlete wants to be doing at age 40. However, the Swiss ace does not lose hope of returning to the courts and winning events as he slowly works his way back towards tennis. It won't happen in time for Wimbledon but US Open is a realistic goal for Federer and former world number one Ilie Nastase believes he will a chance.
Speaking to Marca, Nastase said:
"He is playing very little lately, but he will always have a chance if he continues to play and reaches a final.
Recently, Federer's coach Luthi spoke to the Swiss newspaper where he confirmed that he will return to the court soon to practice but he won't be ready to compete at Wimbledon. Luthi was quoted as saying it was highly unlikely. Even so, Nastase feels that the Swiss ace will have a chance if he returns and plays well With his track record it would be foolish to dismiss that.
