Alexander Zverev delivered the crucial 3rd point for Germany in their tie against Brazil after besting Monteiro 6-1 7-5.
In the first tennis match since his Acapulco incident, Zverev helped Germany secure the win over Brazil in the
Davis Cup winning both singles matches. His participation in this tie proved crucial for Germany who almost dropped the doubles match which could have complicated things even further. Luckily they won that match and Zverev was able to finish this tie off with Zverev's win.
The German started excellently in this match against a very nervous Monteiro. The Brazilian played rather well on clay this season especially at home during the Rio De Janeiro event however against Zverev was overmatched early. The Brazilian likes to play aggressive however he was making a lot of mistakes due to nerves.
After settling a bit in the 2nd set he put up a valiant effort even being the better player at times. The crucial moment happened late in the 2nd set when Zvere was serving to stay in the match a t5-4. Monteiro forced a break point which was a set point as well but failed to convert it. After holding that Zverev went on to break his opponent in the next game and finish it off with a strong service game 7-5.
