Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has achieved a unique milestone as he lifted the European Open in Brussels. The 25-year-old defeated Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka in the final with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.
With that win, Auger-Aliassime achieved a unique milestone as he equaled the record for most title by a Canadian men’s tennis player in the Open era. He won his eighth title on Sunday which matches Milos Raonic’s record of winning eight titles as well.
Overall, Auger-Aliassime is having an impressive season where he has won 34 out of the 53 matches, which included third titles as well. His first title in 2025 was the Adelaide International in January where he defeated America’s Sebastian Korda in the final with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Later in February, Auger-Aliassime lifted the Open Occitanie in Montpellier, France in February where he defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-7, 7-6. Year 2022 till now remains the most successful year for Auger-Aliassime where he lifted four titles.
That year, his first title was the ABN Amro Open in February where he defeated Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Then he won a title in Florence where he got the better of America’s J.J. Wolf in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. His third title in 2022 was the European Open as well where he defeated America’s Korda in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

Big win for Felix Auger-Aliassime

The last major tournament in the men’s tennis calendar will be played from November 09 – 16 in Turin, Italy, where top eight players will participate. This year, world number two Italy’s Jannik Sinner will be defending his title. So far, only three players have cemented their spot in the competition including Sinner, world number one Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
As things stand, Auger-Aliassime is currently placed on the ninth position with 3,145 points. His next assignment is taking part in the Swiss Indoor event in Basel where a win would take his points tally to 3,595. He is just behind Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti who is placed on the eighth position with 3,485.
Interestingly, Auger-Aliassime might still play in the competition regardless of finishing eighth or ninth position, as the former world number one Djokovic has not confirmed whether he will take part in the event or not. Djokovic skipped the competition last year as well to recover towards the end of the season. Auger-Aliassime, spoke to the media after the match, stated that he was happy after winning the competition. Auger-Aliassime also went on to credited his newly-married wife and stated that getting married has brought him luck.
“It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning,” said Auger-Aliassime. “It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go… But I’m obviously glad. I have so much respect for him as a person, as a player. He’s a great guy. Since he’s been on Tour, we’ve gotten along very well, so credit to him and his team, they do a fantastic job. And to my team and family as well. My wife. First tournament as a married man so I guess it’s a good luck. I think you are due some credit.”
