Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to his 2nd final in two weeks with the Canadian set to face Rublev in the Open 13 Provence final.
It has not been a full week since Auger-Aliassime lifted the Rotterdam trophy, but the Canadian will have the chance to at the total tally to two. In Marseille, he played another fabulous week of tennis and with today's victory over Safiullin he will set up the final against Rublev. This match was a very close one with the Russian playing superb tennis.
He took down Tsitsipas in the previous round by playing, probably the best tennis of his career, and while today was not as sharp, it was pretty strong from the Russian. Auger took an early 2-0 lead but the Russian fought back to make it 3-2. He even broke Auger for the 4-2 lead but the Canadian was able to avoid disaster by breaking right back.
Eventually, the match went into the tiebreak and Auger-Aliassime proved better by taking the 7-4 lead. The 2nd set for the most part was pretty calm. Both players served really well and neither had to face any break points early. Safiullin found himself in trouble at 3-4 as he had to save several break points. He did so and we went into a tiebreak once more.
Evetnaully Auger-Aliassime once again proved better as he won it 7-5.
