A maiden Grand Slam quarter-final! @felixtennis impressively beats No.4 seed Alex Zverev 6-4, 7-6(6), 3-6, 3-6, 6-4 on No.1 Court at #Wimbledon
It was a long and brilliant match between Auger-Aliassime and Zverev that had it all. We saw winners, we saw aces, we saw doubles faults we saw wasted leads, squandered opportunities and tennis for over 4 hours. Zverev will remember this match for a long time because he wasted so many chances.
He was up 4-2 in the first but lost 6-4 simply because he was not able to serve and committed 8 double faults. He started the 2nd set with an early break but once again could not hold onto it. In the tiebreak, he wasted a set point and lost it 6-8. After that, he finally started playing better.
The serve resembled more or less what it usually was and it made a significant difference. Not allowing any break point chance he won the set with 6-3. A similar thing happened in the 4th set with Zverev once again not allowing a single break point. It seemed like he would complete the comeback but he got broken in the first set.
It was a similar situation for Zverev who once again founds himself down after not focusing enough. Not long after the match was suspended because of rain and when the roof closed Zverev was better. He pulled back the break and took the 3-2 lead but Felix remained calm and took the lead back.
He served it out with 6-4 to clinch the biggest win of his life over an opponent that really botched this match.
