Straight sets, straight into his 18th #Wimbledon quarter-final... @rogerfederer beats Lorenzo Sonego 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last eight on Centre Court
Roger Federer is decisively marching on at Wimbledon and his latest victory is his most impressive yet. The Swiss ace is looking better and better which is something Federer fans were desperate to see. The first set was shaky by Federer who did play better early but Sonego was able to hold his serve.
When Federer finally broke Sonego it seemed like he had the first set but a terrible service game at 5-4 gave Sonego a 2nd chance. After that, a lengthy service game for Sonego happened where the Italian saved several break points to stay in the match.
The match got suspended in that game because of rain and when the players returned Sonego had no rhythm as Federer was able to break him. He then served it out with 7-5. After that everything went easier as Federer played better and better while Sonego was worse.
He won the 2nd set with 6-4 and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against Sonego in the 3rd. The Italian was playing his style of play but he missed more than he hit and that was costly. In the end, Federer closed it out with 6-2 to move on.
