Shanghai Masters is coming towards
its conclusion where just eight players are remaining who will be battling it
out to secure the ultimate glory.
Interestingly, for the first time
since 2009, the tournament winner will not be from the top four seeded players
as all of them have already been knocked out.
Spain’s young tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz lost to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 with a
score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
The second-seeded player in the
tournament was the current world number three Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev who lost
to America’s Sebastian Korda in the round of 32 in straight sets with a score
of 7-6, 6-2.
Third-seeded player was Denmark’s Holger
Rune who lost in the round of 64 to America’s Brandon Nakashima in straight
sets with a score of 6-0, 6-2.
Greece’s
Stefanos Tsitsipas was
the fourth-seeded player but he ended up losing to France’s Ugo Humbert in the
round 32 with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Now, in the quarterfinal of the
competition, Dimitrov will face Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, Humbert will go up against
Russia’s Andrey Rublev, Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan will clash against Hubert
Hurkacz of Poland and America’s Ben Shelton will feature against fellow countryman
Korda.
