Rafael Nadal has been out of tennis since this year's Australian Open after injuring his hi at the event and he'll likely be out until next year's Australian Open.
Nadal was hoping that this season ends up being a good one but it started very poorly. A hip injury that proved more complicated than anybody anticipated saw him miss a few months more than he initially thought following the injury in Australia. A planned Indian Wells return ultimately turned into a complete pullout from tennis.
The Spaniard announced his withdrawal from Roland Garros after which he underwent surgery to repair the injury. It went well and the recovery time is about five months which means that Nadal could technically return this year although it would be smarter to wait for next year. He did hint at that possibility himself admitting that he would like to be part of the Spanish
Davis Cup team once more.
The Team Captain David Ferrer was asked about Nadal being part of the Spanis team at the Davis Cup Finals later this year and he said:
“Possibly, yes. For all he can transmit. Rafa, even without being 100% is a very special player, who transmits a lot & is so good on the court. You can trust him for his ability to suffer & in his tennis.”
There are many reasons why Nadal might opt to be part of the team and one of them is that the finals are played on Spanish soil and having Alcaraz in the team among with other good players gives the country a really good chances of going all the way and winning the trophy. It would be the perfect send-off from the national team for sucha a legendary player.
It woul be quite fitting because Nadal led the country to a few trophies before.
