Ugo Humbert threw away a huge lead against
Lorenzo Sonego at the Monte-Carlo Masters and he admitted to not feeling very good after the match.
Humbert played really well pushing Sonego really hard in what felt like a match played in Italy. Italian fans traditionally show up for the Monte-Carlo Masters and Sonego certainly enjoyed that.
They essentially willed him to a win with a late rally in the final set. He was up 5-2 in the final set but lost five games in a row to allow Sonego to win the match and speaking after the match, Humbert said:
"For half an hour afterwards, I didn't feel good. Then I calmed down, because it's useless to be depressed, but I know that now I can play well on clay."
Asked what happened, Humbert said:
"I isolated myself. It was good for me. I don't think it's useful to talk about the points in the match. It's done. Tomorrow I will go back to practice."
Humbert concluded with:
"Despite the defeat, he remained optimistic and believed that he is on the right track, and can beat good players on clay. Humbert also expressed that he lacked confidence during the match, but he was able to play his best match on clay of his entire career, up to a certain stage."
