Fernando Gonzalez believes the number of Grand Slams won is not a key factor in the GOAT debate as his pick is Roger Federer.

The greatest of all time debate will always remain a polarizing topic in tennis simply because every person has his own preference. There are no defined rules by which a player is considered the greatest of all time with the pick usually coming down to personal preference. At the Champions Tennis event in London where Gonzalez played the Chilean got asked about it and he shared his thoughts.

He said:

"You can pick who your favorite is for the way the three guys play. I prefer Federer. His backhand, serve and volley and his style is more classic."

In his mind, grand slam trophies should not be the key component as there is a lot more to tennis than just trophies which is quite a different position from what many people consider. For many, the number of grand slams is the overwhelmingly most important part of the debate. Gonzalez also made his pick based upon personal preference which is what he believes is at the core of the question.

Most poeple will look at the topic subjectively and pick the player which they like the most and for him it's always been Federer.
