Dominic Thiem spoke about the US Open final as he recovers from his wrist injury and the Austrian gave his verdict on the GOAT race between Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.
Dominic Thiem did some analytics work during the US Open as he could not defend his US Open title from last year. The Austrian suffered a setback with his wrist injury electing not to play in 2021 at all focusing to come back healthy in 2022. About the final he said:
“One unbelievable goal slipped out of his hands yesterday. But, he still has this, for sure, this goal inside to win the 21st slam, to be the leader alone in this department. So I expect him to be as strong as ever in 2022. It can happen that it also makes him even stronger next year when all these talks, all this pressure is not that big anymore."
Thiem was also asked about the GOAT race and he took a different approach than most players refusing to put one player above the other naming all three the GOAT:
“For me, there are three GOATs in the game. Each of them has achieved something very unique. It’s still the same for me as it was before. The three of them are the best in the history to me and I’m always super happy to be in the same era with them”.
