Novak Djokovic failed to overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the grandest slam wins ever and Toni Nadal feels that the two felt relief after the match.
Much has been spoken about the number of overall major wins in the tennis community with many believing it to be a strong argument in the greatest of all time race. While the race is largely subjective the number of overall wins is still a significant record. Right now all three are at 20 as Djokovic failed to win the 2021 US Open which would propel him to be the sole leader with 21.
Respected coach and tennis commentator Toni Nadal feel that Nadal and Federer felt relief after Medvedev beat Djokovic. He said:
"Both Roger and Rafael will have felt relief after Djokovic's loss. They will be more motivated ahead of the next season as it will take some time for Novak to digest this loss."
Toni Nadal feels that Federer and Nadal will become motivated after the loss to come back stronger in 2022 in order to challenge Djokovic who will be vulnerable. Nadal feels it will take time for Djokovic to digest the win which might be the case. The Serbian did prove very resilient to disappointments in the past so it will be interesting to see.
With the rise of the young superstars, it will also be interesting to see whether the big three will win any major in 2022.

Toni Nadal to El Pais: "Both Roger and Rafael will have felt relief after Djokovic's loss. They will be more motivated ahead of the next season as it will take some time to Novak to digest this loss."
