Transylvania Open hopes to host Emma Raducanu in late October

The WTA event in Cluj-Napoca hopes to see Emma Raducanu participate in the event as someone with Romanian heritage.

The British tennis player emerged as a global tennis star following her shocking win at the 2021 US Open. Fans around the world celebrated the victory including fans in Romania who see Raducanu as their own. The British tennis player has a Romanian father who grew up in the country before moving to the UK because of work.

The Transylvania Open hopes to host Raducanu in late October as her father comes from those parts of the country. They hope she will headline the event with another tennis star from Romania, Simona Halep who will take part in the event. The tournament director said:

"We expect to see strong players in the tournament, especially since we are followed by the WTA Finals. The Transylvania Open will be played indoors in the BT Arena. We will be selling tickets and tournament passes after October 1st. And I can't wait to see the grandstand full, like at the US Open and Winners Open."
