Belinda Bencic played her first match at the
Luxembourg Open and the top seed cruised easily past
Zarina Diyas 6-1 6-3.
Bencic returned to the court for the first time since her US Open quarterfinal loss to Emma Raducanu. Bencic has been enjoying a very good summer that included winning the Gold Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She played well at the US Open as well before completely collapsing against Raducanu who won easily.
She bounced back at the Luxembourg Open with a strong win after the tricky Zarina Diyas who can make your life miserable in the right circumstances. The Kazakhstani player however proved no match for Bencic who came out furious playing some stellar tennis. She took an early lead that quickly snowballed to a sizeable lead result in the first set ending 6-1 to Bencic.
The Swiss player played well as Diyas simply could not match her level especially when returning. Diyas played a bit better in the 2nd set however she was still no match for Bencic slipped up early. She lost her serve at 1-1 giving Diyas the lead but came right back to make it 2-2. After that, she continued to play well taking a 4-2 lead.
From there it was an easy finish for Bencic who grew up playing on indoor hard courts in Switzerland and today she showed her comfort level on the surface. With the win, Becnci is in the quarterfinal as the top seed looks like the player to beat at the event.
