Albeit wanting to tread his own path, former coach of Roger Federer in Paul Annacone believes that
Carlos Alcaraz initially will be defined by
Novak Djokovic which him and his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero will be well versed about
Alcaraz is seen by many as the future of the sport which Djokovic himself said alongside Holger Rune is the case. But Djokovic has held on to the reigns and continues to do so longer than some expected.
At the age of 37, he continues to hoover up titles and ascend to the World No.1 spot, while Alcaraz on two Grand Slam titles has struggled at times to continue his form and has done a lot of chasing for Djokovic who still maintains a smaller schedule at the top of the game.
"The Alcaraz quote I wanted to get back to. I'm thinking about Djokovic like he's on my mind. Sure, he's going to be focused on him... I think Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero do such a good job at looking at the macro, that they're going to focus on the big picture.
"And they know that that journey is going to have Novak in front of them for the time being. Yeah, the age gap is a big point in this," said Annacone on the Tennis Channel.
Alcaraz always has Djokovic on his mind
That quote is one of Alcaraz having Djokovic deeply embedded in his mind and how he goes to every tournament with the goal to unseat him. "I think [about Djokovic] almost in every practice, I am not going to lie. I train with a goal. I go to the tournaments with a goal. To try to end the year as No. 1. He is on my mind in almost every practice. I have to practice my best. I have to go for 100% in every ball to be able to catch him."
