The 2025
Shanghai Masters will not be short of star power as former World No.3
Stan Wawrinka has been announced as one of the wildcard entrants for the ATP Masters 1000 event.
Scheduled to kick off on October 1, 2025, the Shanghai Masters has a rich history of treating fans to exceptional tennis from the world's best players. Since it's introduction in 2009, the Shanghai Masters has been awarded the ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year five times in a row, from 2009 till 2013, as voted on by the players.
This year's edition will feature no shortage of stars, as several of the ATP's top 20 are scheduled to compete in Shanghai. World No.1 Jannik Sinner, who prevailed at last year's championships, will be present with the hopes of successfully defending his title.
Joining the Italian is rival Carlos Alcaraz, who claimed his sixth overall Grand Slam singles title at the recent US Open after defeating Sinner in the final. Four-time Shanghai champion Novak Champion has also been confirmed for the event, in addition to World No.3 Alexander Zverev 2019 champion Daniil Medvedev.
Wawrinka headlines list of wildcard entrants at Shanghai
The 40-year old is in the twilight of his career, after a tenure on tour that saw him capture three Grand Slam titles. Due to his ranking falling outside the top 100, the Swiss superstar no longer has automatic entry to big events and will require a wildcard in order to compete in Shanghai.
This will be Wawrinka's 12th wildcard entry at an ATP event. Despite his sporadic appearances on tour, the former World No.3 is still guaranteed to draw a crowd whenever he takes to the court.
Wawrinka is one of four wildcards in Shanghai. Joining the veteran are a quartet of hometown heroes, with Chinese stars Juncheng Shang, Yibing Wu, Zhizhen Zhang and Yi Zhou all granted wildcards to participate in the main draw of the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 event.
