After being let go by Italian tennis superstar
Jannik Sinner amid a serious doping controversy, fitness coach Umberto Ferrara is set to begin working with Sinner's compatriot,
Matteo Berrettini during the 2025 ATP season.
Sinner was at the centre of doping allegations earlier this year, after he tested positive for trace elements of Clostebol. Ferrara was let go following the conclusion of investigations, as he was deemed partly responsible for the anabolic element being introduced into the World No.1's system.
Ferrara's addition to Berrettini's team could be vital for the Italian
The former Wimbledon finalist is hoping to regain the form that saw him break into the top 10 on the ATP rankings. Berrettini has dealt with several ailments over the last few years that have seen him spend time on the sidelines, but produced his best season in recent years after winning the title at the Kitzbuhel Open this year.
Ferrara has an impressive resume, having assisted in propelling Sinner to his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. The fitness trainer worked with the World No.1 over the last two years, helping him improve his strength and fitness. Additionally, Ferrara has worked with the likes of Liudmila Samsonova, Stefano Travaglia and Marco Cecchinato prior to his collaboration with Sinner.
