American tennis star
John Isner was unable to summon the magic that saw him reach the semifinals at
Wimbledon a few years ago, as he fell to
Jaume Munar in the opening round on Monday.
The towering Isner was broken five times in their first round encounter, handing the Spaniard a 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory. Despite the crowd being fully behind the American, he was unable to overcome the consistent play from his opponent.
Isner's Grand Slam woes continue
The former World No.8 has been subpar in Majors this season, falling to 0-3 in all Grand Slams in 2023. Although Isner, 38, has revealed he is in the twilight of his career and would like to focus more on his growing family, the American occasionally displays some of the skill that saw him capture his lone ATP Masters 1000 title at the 2018 Miami Open.
