America’s tennis star
Frances Tiafoe is going through a horrendous
time on the court after yet another dismal outing.
The 25-year-old lost to Kazakhstani’s Alexander Bublik in
the round of 32 clash of the Paris Masters with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
That was Tiafoe’s seventh defeat in the last nine matches across
different competitions which also ended his hopes of securing a place in the
last major tournament of the calendar year —
ATP Finals.
The Maryland-born will be extremely unhappy with his overall
performance in the calendar year where despite playing in the main round of
every Grand Slam, he managed to qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond just
once.
That happened in the US Open where he lost to fellow
countryman Ben Shelton in the last-eight contest with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 7-6,
6-2.
Other than that, Tiafoe faltered in the third round of all
the other three Grand Slams this year.
Tiafoe won two ATP titles this year. The first one was
Houston where he defeated Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the final with
a score of 7-6, 7-6.
His next title came
in the Stuttgart where he defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the final
with a score of 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.
