.@DaniilMedwed wasn’t fine with this! 😳 Don’t know how Mac won so many Grand Slam titles in those shorts… #Pepperstone #DontBeFineWithIt
Former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev participated in a fun video where he is dressed as John McEnroe in his prime, playing with the 7-time Grand Slam champion. The 2021 US Open champion shared a promotional video in which both recreated McEnroe's iconic 80s look, complete with a red headband and his memorable haircut.
The Russian reached the fourth round at Wimbledon on Saturday after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in four sets, setting up an 11th-time clash with Grigor Dimitrov. So far, Medvedev leads their head-to-head 7-3, though their only grass-court match was won by the Bulgarian back at the 2017 Queen’s Club Championships.
Medvedev has been known throughout his career for not hiding his strong character when matches get tough. But off the court, he has also shown his sense of humour many times, as seen in the promotional video for Pepperstone that he starred in with McEnroe.
The 28-year-old Russian appears on a grass court doing volleys at the net, seemingly in a typical training session, until McEnroe hilariously shows up in his 80s match attire and a wig mimicking his famous hair from his professional years.
“Daniil, you’re doing it all wrong,” McEnroe says.
“I’m one of the best in the world,” Medvedev responds.
“Exactly, one of… but I've got an idea to make you No. 1,” says McEnroe.
Immediately, Daniil Medvedev is seen in the same outfit as Johnny Mac, including the wig, a white outfit with blue details, and the red headband, along with a racket replicating the old ones used in the 80s.
Here you can find the fun video featuring both world No. 1s.
