From Rome Open final to fighting for future: Nicolas Jarry set to plummet out of top 140 with Wimbledon qualifying likely

Nicolas Jarry this time last year was in the top 16 in the ATP Rankings after reaching the final of the Rome Open but his form since has shown how quickly players can plummet with a huge ranking drop set next week.
Jarry needed to defend a final this week to stop going down nearly 100 spots to World No.146 as of next week but he lost out albeit in a tricky tie against his fellow South American, Francisco Cerundolo.
He now faces a bleak future from being as high as the top 20 to likely needing to reevaluate what is next. He lost to Alexander Zverev last year 6-4, 7-5 in the Rome Open final and also lost in the Argentina Open final to Facundo Diaz Acosta.
But the issue he has had is that he has barely won matches since reaching that Rome final. He had a foot issue which took him out of the Sunshine Double for instance just recently and has failed to recapture that form that saw him become a sudden contender for Roland Garros last year.
He will get into the main draw of the French Open but after that, it will be a fight as he will need to likely play Wimbledon qualifying and will presumably have to head down to a lower level to regain his form and tennis.
Albeit he has had to fight before so it is nothing new. In 2020, he was suspended for testing positive for Ligandrol and Stanozolol. He was suspended in January of that year and return in November.
He had to play tournaments using wildcards in South America mainly and he managed to get himself back into the top 150 by doing it the hard way. But having to do it again is another matter and a reality he will soon have to face.
