Nick Kyrgios is known to be one of the more controversial and outspoken players in the sport. He continued this reputation with some rants about the Australian Prime Minister while being barred from a nightclub at 7am while the
Australian Open was going on.
After he was unable to obtain a wildcard for the singles main draw, Kyrgios put all of his effort into the doubles. He had been knocked out of the men's event after teaming up once again with Thanasi Kokkinakis, with the pair winning the major title back in 2022. Fate was not even close to repeating itself, losing narrowly in the first round.
He still had the mixed doubles to play in, playing his first match on Friday, 23rd January with former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez. They were able to get out on top in an enthralling and dramatic matchup. Kyrgios celebrated this by going out with some friends, with an insane night out on the cards.
Kyrgios' three day bender before doubles disappointment
In footage picked up by the Daily Mail, Kyrgios was outside Circus Bar on Commercial Road in South Yarra at 7am speaking with staff members and friends after what looked like a big night out. He did not want it to end as he attempted to get back into the venue. In a bizarre scenario, he even went down on one knee in front of the entrance. It did not work.
In the clip, he was also seen letting out some steam by lambasting Anthony Albanese, the Prime Minister of Australia. At one point, he was overheard stating: "Albanese, f*** him." One of the group members eventually led him away from the entrance, attempting to cool the angry Australian down.
He would spend Saturday recovering just to do it all over again on Sunday night. Kyrgios was seen speaking to Circus Bar staff in South Yarra at 7am on Sunday morning. Kyrgios friend tried to get him into the taxi. He was even seen grabbing his face and pulling his arm, attempting to get him into the taxi. This plea would come up unanswered, with Kyrgios once more going to the entrance of the bar to speak with staff members.
With his next
Australian Open mixed doubles match on Monday, you would expect Kyrgios to get an early night to prepare for the match. This was incorrect. He once again went out to paint the town red. He found himself partying hard at a Melbourne nightclub, Bar Bambi, that Monday morning, hours before the mixed doubles defeat. "Alright, Nick, c'mon, let's go," an acquaintance said to the 30-year-old.
Kyrgios then went back to his old tricks and started to rant about the Prime Minister, to which his companion bluntly replied: "Nick, shut the f*** up." They seemed to be walking away from the nightclub, but then Kyrgios attempted to get back in, arguing again with staff.
"Let's get out of here," Kyrgios' pal said. They were seen on a pathway as he was tried to be cooled down, with someone echoing: "They've just kicked Nick out."
Kyrgios had not been the only Aussie player to have gone out. He was joined by Kokkinakis as showed by an
Instagram post of them together. The pair have both been ravaged by injuries during their professional careers but were not stopping this from a good night out.
Kyrgios would have to recover in time to step back onto the court with his Canadian partner and were ultimately on the
end of a trouncing from Anna Danilina and Jason Tracy 6-3, 6-1. While providing some cracking entertainment for the crowd, it was not to be this year for Kyrgios, who has enjoyed a memorable few days.
