While failing to be drawn on any replacement,
Novak Djokovic said that the relationship with coach of six years,
Goran Ivanisevic had simply ran its course.
Similar sentiments to Ivanisevic himself, Djokovic said that he felt that he had given the partnership its maximum and that he is still very much a part of his life.
He said that remains a good friend of his family and himself and there is no bad blood behind their split. Ivanisevic gave lengthy interviews this week with Sport Klub and The Tennis Podcast and said that it could've end around eight months ago after the US Open. The former coach of Cilic and Berdych said that it had been up in the air until Indian Wells when they sat down had a meal and ended their time together.
“We just both felt that we gave each other in this relationship the maximum and it was time to move on. It is very simple,” Djokovic said. He remains one of the most successful coaches in the history of the game, what we have done is something that can’t be deleted. The results and history speak for itself and he remains a good friend of me and my family.”
Ivanisevic will take a break he said to The Tennis Podcast. With the European Championship in football coming up, he will go as a fan and then decide in September after the Croatian summer. His ideal route he admitted at the time is to bring a player up. But by his own admission, he said nothing is ever that simple.
While for Djokovic, Nenad Zimonjic who is a well-known ally and former top doubles star has been spotted coaching him for the
Monte-Carlo Masters. Whether he remains is up in the air, but likely results starting in Monaco dictate that.
