Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic’s trainer
believes that the current world number one is genetically superior to other
athletes. The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand
Slam titles.
Marco Panichi, who is the trainer
of the current world number one, believes that he is genetically superior to
other athletes which makes it very hard for others to copy him.
“There is more than one reason, but
any consideration must start from the fact that Nole is genetically a
phenomenon,” he said. “He is someone capable of doing everything with
simplicity and consistency, but also capable of doing things that others are
prevented from doing.
“Nole is a demanding champion, he
wants a lot from himself and, consequently, those around him must adapt to
these ambitions. And his motivation is always very high, he never suffers any
downturn. We start training again on December 10, then he goes to Australia and
starts the circuit again.”
Djokovic had a
fabulous year at the highest level where he ended up winning three out of four
Grand Slams. His only defeat in a major tournament came in the final at
Wimbledon where he lost to Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set
thrilling contest with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
