The top two German tennis player's Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber advanced to the 2nd round to keep hopes of a German winner alive

Sasha Zverev has been arguably the best young tennis player for quite some time. Despite that, he is yet to advance past the quarterfinal at a major. Many wonder when will he break out? Perhaps this time at the Australian Open? He certainly prepared very well.

Sasha started his match against Cecchinato in strong fashion. He was brilliant on his own serve not allowing his opponent much ultimately winning it 6-4. The second set a bit tougher for the German as his opponent played very well. Ultimately we reached the tiebreak where the german was able to pull away and win it 7-4.

The 3rd set was very similar. Zverev played well but the Italian kept resisting until late in the set. It wasn't until the 8th game that the German managed to break his opponent one last and final time before closing out the set to win it 6-3. It was a good start for Zverev who is hopeful he can win it all.

Angelique Kerber started off her campaign to win the Australian Open with a matchup against Elisabetta Cocciaretto. How will she do is a mystery because a couple of days she retired her match in Adelaide due to injury.

She started off well breaking her opponent early to take a 2-0 lead. Angelique would continue to play well throughout the set eventually breaking her opponent once more to take a commanding 5-2 lead. A strong service game followed and it was 6-2 to Kerber.

After the conclusion of the 1st set, there was a medical timeout requested by the Italian. It became apparent early in the second set that something was bothering her. Kerber seized that opportunity and dominated the whole set winning it 6-2. A good start for the German hopefull albeit aided by an injury to her opponent.
