Kei Nishikori endured a very tough 2021 season but the Japanese player is determined to return to the top 10 in 2022.
Kei Nishikori has been injured many times with the Japanese player having terrible luck with injuries in general. 2021 was no different as he was able to play some solid tennis overall but injuries never allowed him to play several weeks consistently to properly find his form. Speaking on his season Nishikori lamented:
"At the Tokyo Olympics and the USO, I started regaining my form. Felt a bit relieved to be back on form in the latter half of the year, but then I got injured, want to get well soon for next season. My motivation has not declined, I can work hard with that day to day."
Nishikori is currently working very hard to be physically ready for the 2022 season so he can come back and play some good tennis again. As he noted there is a lot of motivation and the player has a clear goal in mind when speaking of 2022. Asked what his goal is, Nishikori said:
"My goal for the next year is to go back to top-20/30 as soon as possible and then to the top-10, I'm sure I can go back to that position if I can play my tennis. New faces have raised rankings or reached top-10 this year, transition to the next generation is happening, but I'll focus on what I can do."
