Belgium defeated Moldova 3-0 after more than 6 hours in what should have been a comfortable matchup for the team around Goffin.

Steve Darcis kicked-off the inaugural ATP Cup in Sydney with the match against world number 818, Alexander Cozbinov. Former world number 38 struggled in the first set, when he was losing already 1-3 and 3-4, being a break down.
But he managed to come back as he won the first set 6-4. However, in the second set, it was Cozbinov who fought for the point for his country. Set reached the tie-break and Darcis led already 4-0. But Cozminov won the following 7 points to secure the 2nd set victory. In the 3rd set, Darcis earned 3 breaks while his opponent managed to break his service game just twice and so he won the set 7-5 to give Belgium a 1-0 lead.
In the second match, David Goffin faced Radu Albot. Goffin did not struggle as he managed to win comfortably in two sets 6-4 and 6-1 after 83 minutes.
The doubles match brought more drama than expected when Belgium was already a clear winner of the tie as they were leading 2-0. After Albot & Cozminov won the tie-break of the first set, Gille & Vliegen triumphed in a second and so super tie-break had to decide. There, a duo from Moldova was leading already 7-3. But problems with electricity caused that play was suspended for some time. Then Gille & Vliegen made almost no more mistakes to win the super tie-break 11-9 and add 3rd point for Belgium.
