Coco Gauff will face her biggest challenge at
Wimbledon yet facing former champion
Angelique Kerber in the 4th round.
Coco Gauff has been a standout performer in 2021 playing better and better tennis as time went on. The American phenom reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and she is now looking at a potential quarterfinal at Wimbledon. Standing in her way will be a former champion, Angelique Kerber.
Asked about that matchup she said:
“I think, to be honest, I’m just going to go out there and play free. I don’t feel any pressure on myself. I haven’t felt any pressure on myself at all. My dad told me that I matched my result from 2019 so now
should just be being able to play even freer"
Kerber is the only former Wimbledon champion remaining in the main draw and asked about that Gauff said:
“I mean, she’s a really nice person off the court. I remember when she won Wimbledon. I don’t know, I guess it was a win that a lot of people weren’t expecting at the time. I mean, she did it. She obviously knows what it takes to win at this level. She also had a great win last week in Germany."
Guaff closed it out by saying:
“I know it’s going to be a tough match. She’s going to make a lot of balls in the court, make a lot of good shots. She’s a great player. I’m just going to go out there and try my best, hopefully come out on top.”
