Alex de Minaur defended his
Mexican Open title on Saturday night after defeating Casper Ruud 6-4 6-4 in the final. Despite now having a trophy to show for his good start to the season, de Minaur said he couldn't hang around for long.
When asked during the presentation whether he will be attending a post-tournament party, the Australian replied: "No, I cannot because I've got a 6am flight to go to Tijuana and go and watch Katie (Boulter) play in the final so I'm looking forward to that."
De Minaur and Boulter have been in a relationship since March 2022. The Brit is in her first WTA 500 final at the
San Diego Open, where she has seen off Lesia Tsurenko, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Donna Vekic and Emma Navarro. Boulter will face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the Sunday showpiece (00:00 GMT).
The win in Acapulco is de Minaur's eighth on the ATP Tour and despite not playing his best, he admitted he felt at home in Central America. "Acapulco has been a very good place to me for my tennis career. The first time I won a 500, and the first time I've defended a title in my career. I feel at home here and it’s a great place to be."
