Arthur Fils has apologised after a video circulated of him shouting at an official at the
Chile Open due to unsafe playing conditions. Fils was in a quarter final clash with Spaniard Pedro Martinez on Friday when he got into an argument with a supervisor over the clay court's quality.
Fils was heard several times swearing at the supervisor, asking him how it was possible he could determine whether the court was safe to play on as the non-athlete of the two.
The Frenchman went on to lose the match 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 and took to Instagram to apologise for letting his emotions get the better of him. Fils said: "I wanted to apologize for my irritation yesterday, it's not a good behaviour."
He then clarified that his frustration stemmed from an injury he believed he sustained whilst playing on the court. "To clarify everything, I wasn't annoyed by the bad bounces on the court. This can happen anywhere. I was especially worried because of an injury felt during the game due to the state of the court.
"Risking your season because of dangerous court is not something pleasant for all high-level athletes. I hope you guys will understand. Have to do some exams now and see you probably in IW (Indian Wells)." You can watch the video of the incident between Fils and the supervisor below.
