Several tennis fans were astounded at the inclusion of
Holger Rune in the upcoming '6 Kings Slam' exhibition event, which is slated to occur in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in October this year.
The General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that the exhibition match will be held later this year, as Saudi Arabia continues to grow it's presence in the tennis world. The country has been engaged in talks with the ATP regarding potential investments in the sport, which will be facilitated by the country's Public Investment Fund (PIF). Additionally, there have been rumors that the WTA Finals could be relocated to Saudi Arabia sometime in the future.
Rune's inclusion in star-studded lineup leaves fans perplexed
The exhibition event will feature top tennis stars, all of whom have captured a Grand Slam title. The lineup includes
Novak Djokovic,
Rafael Nadal,
Carlos Alcaraz,
Daniil Medvedev and
Jannik Sinner. Fans were therefore left surprised and amused at Rune being invited to the event, as the Dane is yet to reach a Major semifinal.
"Bro Rune hasn’t even made it to a grand slam semifinal this is a joke. Why isn’t it Tsitsipas? Then there is 2 big 3, 2 little 3, and 2 new gen. Tsitsipas has at least made it to a grand slam final," wrote a fan on Reddit.
"Who let my man Rune in, bro thinks he on the team," posted another fan.
"What is Rune doing there lol" wrote an amused fan.
"2 Kings, 3 Princes and a jester," wrote another creative fan.
