Carlos Alcaraz will make his official debut this week at the
Argentina Open and it will be his first event in four months.
An amazing 2022 took its toll towards the end of the year as the Spaniard experienced an injury. He experienced another setback at the start of this year and Buenos Aires will finally see him come back to tennis.
The Spaniard's coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero spoke on whether his charge had made any changes since his mesmerizing title run at last year's US Open.
"Not if we talk about personality and character, but many of the things that are lived on a daily basis do change," said Ferrero. "He has had to adapt after the US Open title to everything that is happening to him, that had to take its toll, as was normal, as was to be expected. But finishing the year as number one gave him more time to adapt better to the new situation."
Ferrero expanded on what the youngster needs to improve in order to take the next step which would be winning events consistently and being a threat to win every grand slam played.
"[Carlos Alcaraz] has a lot of things to improve," admitted the former World No.1. "The consistency in the serve, in the return to have better directions, to be better at the beginning of the matches, more regular, because many times it costs him a little bit to start. And on a technical level he also has a lot of things to improve, like his backhand slice, blocking the return…. Things that at 19 years old, no matter how much you are number one, you have to polish."
