Rafael Nadal has had a tremendous 2022 season but it was not one that went smoothly as he faced many issues in this one.
His Australian Open came into question when he experienced some physical issues in the Persian Gulf while playing at some exhibition events. He showed up down under and battled his way into the final coming back from 0-2 down to beat Medvedev.
Then he faced issues with his foot at Roland Garros having to take numbing injections in order to be able to play as he dealt with chronic pain. All of that was covered in a recent talk with Toni Nadal who shared his thoughts on his season:
"Today I talked to him and now he is fine. It is true that he has had a difficult year. It could have been an extraordinary season, but it has been marred by the continual inconvenience he has had."
Commenting further, Uncle Toni said:
"The results went well because he won Australia and Roland Garros, but you leave with a bitter taste in your mouth. At Wimbledon he couldn't play a semifinal when he was playing well and was a clear candidate for the title, also problems in New York. What an athlete wants above all else is to be well and play, also to win. My nephew has won, but he has been in more trouble than one can bear sometimes."
