"I'm definitely fresh" - Novak Djokovic after smashing van de Zandschulp

Novak Djokovic played a lot of tennis lately but his wins have been fairly simple and quick leaving the Serbian fresh.

Playing back-to-back weeks is not ideal for Djokovic but his body has been spared quite a bit this year as he missed a large chunk of the season due to his unvaccinated status. He is playing in Astana after playing in Tel Aviv last year but there is no fatigue.

That is mainly due to his easy victories both in Tel Aviv and here as he only needed 71 minutes to defeat the Dutch player. After the match, Djokovic confirmed her is feeling good:

“My season is different from any [other] so don’t look at my season in comparison to others. I haven’t played for over three months before Israel so I definitely am fresh physically and mentally motivated to do well.”

Talking about the match itself, the Serbian said:

"I think my serve worked very well when I needed to get out of trouble in the first set, particularly. There were some 30-30 games and when I broke his serve at 4-2 he had a break point. I came in and he had a look at a passing shot but missed it. The match is decided in these moments."

Up next for him is Karen Khachanov a player whom he dominated in their clashes so far. He was also beaten once, in 2017 at the Paris Masters.
