Laura
Robson commented on
Andy Murray's injury that forced him to withdraw from the
Canadian Open just before his match against Jannik Sinner.
The former
world No. 1 was having a promising run in Toronto, but a recurrence of his
abdominal injury that had previously affected him before Wimbledon led him to
make the decision to withdraw from the Canadian tournament.
Murray
explained to his fans that the injury is not something serious and that he
withdrew from the tournament as a precautionary measure:
โI had a
very similar issue last year in the tournament in Stuttgart before Wimbledon
which forced me to miss the Queenโs Club tournament and I was able to play
Wimbledon,โ Murray said.
โIt took me
about 10 to 12 days before I was feeling good again,โ
โThis is
not as bad as that but obviously the danger if you compete and play on it is
you make it worse,โ he added.
โSo, Iโll
need to see how it develops over the coming days and hopefully feel better in a
few days. Iโm really sorry.โ
Commentator
and former tennis player Laura Robson referred to Murray's issues and stated
that the 3-time Grand Slam champion is ready for the upcoming challenges and to
compete against the best players in the world.
โHe is
playing so consistently now, playing week-in, week-out. The more matches he can
play the better,โ Robson said.
โHe is one
of the toughest opponents out there, he never gives in and he is great at
working out matches as he goes."
โThis is
what he has been striving for in the last few years since his return. He is
very much back up there again," she added.
โYou
thought maybe he was going to do it at Wimbledon, but it seems inevitable that
it will happen at some point.
โThe fact
that he is still loving it as much as he does is a positive sign and for all
the young lads coming up to see someone who has won as much as he has still
competing as well as he did 15 years ago, thatโs inspiring,โ Robson concluded.
