Lots of conflicting reports are out about Novak Djokovic and his Australian Open participation. The closest sources to the world number one in the Serbian media claim that Djokovic will play at the Australian Open. They also claim that he will be given a medical exemption to do so but reports from Australia are saying he was refused one.
His ATP Cup teammate Dusan Lajovic was asked about Djokovic and the reason why he withdrew from the ATP Cup and he said:
“I don’t know the official reason [why Djokovic withdrew] but maybe the ATP knows. [Djokovic] just said that he’s not coming to the ATP Cup and he’s trying to get to the Australian Open."
How Djokovic intends to do so remains to be seen as the Serbian himself refused to talk about the matter publicly simply stating that everyone will know on time. With the event only three weeks it remains to be seen what will happen.
Lajovic further said:
“He said, ‘I’m not coming guys to the ATP Cup; we’ll see about the Australian Open’. I mean, he didn’t specify if he’s coming or not but that he’s waiting for a decision.”
