Following Wimbledon
Andy Murray made his way to Newport to play the final grass event of the year and he played against
Max Purcell there.
The Aussie was better early taking the first set but Murray fought back to win the match. The doubles champion shared in a recent interview that they spent some time chatting after the match in the locker room and how pleasant the exchange was.
He said:
"He was nice after the match, he said a few things to the
coach who was working with me. I chatted with him a little bit, when we were dealing with
our cramps after the match. I asked him how his legs were! Then he asked
what I was doing next. He was cramping up at the end [of our match], but he was too good closing me out."
Purcell also expressed admiration for Murray's commitment to the game saying:
"To come back and still play after his hip [problems],
knowing he won’t be as good as he was, but to still go out there and
want to keep playing and competing, I don’t know many people who would
do that. He must just love tennis and love competing that much. With
him donating all his [Wimbledon] prize money to the Ukraine fund,
that’s a pretty special thing to do."
