Novak Djokovic lost the opening set of his 3rd match against Kei Nishikori but rallied to come back and win in 4.
The Serbian started off really slow and very passive by his own admission after the match. Nishikori played inspired tennis as well and it was enough to win in a close tiebreak. From there Djokovic established himself slowly playing better and better and more aggressively.
Nishikori became tired and could not really keep up resulting in the loss. Eurosport analyst Alex Corretja said on the match:
"I think Novak wasn’t sure about the gear he was playing. I think he was playing too slow at the beginning and then he was recovering very much. And then second, third and fourth set he looked better but of course he needs to be careful because when you start playing with fire sometimes you can burn yourself."
Djokovic is rarely one that allows himself upsets especially in early rounds of events that are significant. That is why Corretja believes he will be better going forward:
“First round okay he lost one set but he knew he was going to be right away to win, but he knows that Nishikori can beat you and that’s what I think, for him, it was just great to get into the fourth round this way because from now on, everything is going to be totally different, much more dangerous."
He finished with:
“If you didn’t get through tough situations in the whole summer since the Olympics, it would have been too long. So I think he is going to be ready and in the second week we will see the best of Novak.”
