Jannik Sinner is in for a real fight when he faces
Corentin Moutet tonight in a battle between the World No.2 and the French entertainer who has made himself one of the stories of the tournament thus far at the
French Open. That is the belief of former top five star,
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Speaking on Amazon Prime's coverage of the tournament and as translated from French, he admitted that Moutet has the game to really switch it up and not allow Sinner to have it all his own way. Moutet thus far has defeated Nicolas Jarry, Alexander Shevchenko and Sebastian Ofner en route. For a player more well known for his outbursts including asking for Coffee and full fat Pepsi on the court, he has really shown that there is a lot more to his game than that.
But Sinner is a different kettle of fish. Albeit one with a bit of unknown to his game also. He has been injured recently and has not been fully tested yet. Will that come on Sunday evening? Time will tell.
"When I analyse the situation, I see Moutet playing in the tournament of his life because he's never been as good at
Roland Garros before. He's at home, he was born here, he's got all his friends in the stands. He's got a game that doesn't necessarily match Sinner's, who's going to want to play in rhythm all the time," said Tsonga to Amazon Prime as translated from We Love Tennis.
"I think Corentin is going to give him little serves and little drop shots. I'd like to think that he'll really upset him and get him into a system of play where the other player isn't that comfortable because he doesn't have great hands. Sinner is a hitter and Corentin can take him into something else."
