Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic is hoping to
have at least one more match against Spain’s
Rafael Nadal before the latter bids
farewell to the sport.
The 37-year-old is currently spending time on the sidelines
as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. It was because of this reason
Nadal ended up missing three out of the four Grand Slams this year.
The former world number one recently announced that he will
be returning to action in 2024. Djokovic was recently quoted in a report where,
while responding to the comment, expressed his desire to have at least one more
match against the King of Clay before he bids farewell to the game.
“I think it would be nice for the sport to have at least one
more match between Nadal and me,” he said. “That’s the biggest rivalry in terms
of the amount of matches played that this sport ever had. Hopefully that can
happen.
“He’s a big warrior. He’s somebody that really never gives
up. With all the injuries that he had, keeps going. That’s definitely something
that you have to respect and admire about him and his spirit.”
Nadal is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history
of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam
titles.
The only player who has won more major titles than Nadal is
Djokovic who has lifted 24 Grand Slams in his illustrious career.
