Italy’s tennis star Jannik Sinner believes that his father
was nervous while sitting in the stands but just did not show it.
The 22-year-old had his family sitting in the stands as he
managed to defeat America’s Ben Shelton in the fourth round at the Indian Wells
in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-1 on Tuesday.
Talking to the media after the match, Sinner stated that his
father was nervous but he just did not show it. He also stated that it was amazing
to have his close friends and family present in the stands.
"Oh, he[father]’s nervous,” he said. He’s just not
showing it, I guess. It’s amazing to have him here," he said. It’s a
little bit different tournament, we have the house, we cook together. In the
evening, we watch some series together, which I missed a lot in the last years.
"I haven’t had him around so much, so it’s great to
have him, and obviously all the rest of the team. It’s just fun to be around
with them. So it’s awesome," he added in his on-court interview.
With that win, Sinner has now booked his place in the quarterfinal
of the ATP 1000 event in California where he will face the Czech Republic’s Jiri
Lehecka on Thursday.
