Novak Djokovic's loss to
Luca Nardi at the 2024
Indian Wells Open was shocking in many ways including in terms of the ranking of his opponent in what is technically his worst ever defeat in terms of ranking ever.
Statistics compiled by We Are Tennis after his loss to Luca Nardi showed his worst ever defeats in Masters 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments with the Italian just sneaking in at top spot. Albeit, he is now up to World No.106 in the live rankings which would place him fourth, but this doesn't reflect the pre-tournament rankings.
Nardi is ranked World No.123 as of before Indian Wells, while Kevin Anderson who was World No.122 back at Miami 2008 is the next up meaning it is his worst defeat in 16 years. Denis Istomin back at Australian Open in 2017 is next up with Taro Daniel and Julian Benneteau finalising the top five.
His loss to Daniel was his latest lowest ranked loss at Indian Wells in particular meaning that Nardi also takes that record. A lot of question marks surround Novak Djokovic right now and they will be furthered by this as Nardi breaks a record and adds to the Italian hoodoo with this win.
